At school, Jason concentrated on baseball, to the detriment of more academic subjects. 

After leaving school, he played minor league ball, during which time he threw a few games for money.  He was drafted to the New York Yankees where he played first base.  Now that he was in the major leagues, he decided he would no longer throw games.  The man he'd thrown them for punished him by having his girlfriend 'mugged'.  She died in hospital a week later.  Jason retired from baseball, to join the police force at age 22.
